Talking Things Over

Study Group:

Periodically we have weekly evening meetings on a weeknight for six to eight weeks. Using DVDs or study guides, we explore such questions as “How can a loving God allow suffering?”, “What does the Bible really say about homosexuality?” and “How should we understand the Bible?”

Digging Deeper Discussion:

Sundays at 12:15 in the Library. To see our plans for this year, click here.

Lectionary Bible Study and Prayer:

Thursday afternoon at 1 pm in the Library. This hour is based on the gospel reading for each coming Sunday as set out in the Revised Common Lectionary. To see the lectionary readings, click here. We read the passage from a minimum of four different translations and primarily use the following discussion questions:

  • What word or phrase catches your attention?
  • What is the message of the passage?
  • How does the message intersect with our life?
  • What is God asking us to do?

The hour concludes with lifting up those in our church family in need of prayer and with thanks for the blessings in our lives.

Worship Re-told!

Mondays at 3:30 pm at Dirigo Pines in “The Pub” on the 2nd floor! All are invited who wish to come! The hour+ is spent relaxing in front of the fire with Rev. Lorna and discussing the sermon from the day before with those who were there and those who were unable to come, and reading and discussing the scripture for the coming Sunday. Our Dirigo Pines members want all to know that everyone is welcome to join them on any/all Mondays!

Book Group

7:00 pm on the 1st Friday of the month in The Gathering Place. Each month the group chooses a book to read and discuss. The time together is often quite lively! Books we have read include Three Cups of Tea, The Help, Mennonite in a Little Black Dress, and The Search for God at Harvard. Click here to read more about book night.

State of Grace

Held on the third Monday of the month at 5:30 pm in the Gathering Place, State of Grace is a women’s book and discussion group. Books read this year include Cutting for Stone, The Lacuna, and Still Alice.

Movie Night

6:00 pm on the last Friday of each month in the MacKenzie Room. Come and enjoy an evening of pizza, movie, and discussion (hmm…witty banter?!). Movies are chosen for their philosophical content or thought provoking context, and lively dialog follows each viewing! Click here to read more about movie night.
